BABA'S Bunch, Nepal
Baba's Bunch is a small charity based in Nepal, providing love, care & support to young orphans at The Happiness Colony Orphanage & offering a scholarship scheme to educate the ''underprivileged'' children coming from remote area's of Nepal.
Since 2000, Baba Sushanti (originally from New Zealand) with his wife Shanta, have been managing the orphanage with support from friends and profits from Baba's jewellery business.
Thus far $1000 NZ was raised during my time in Dunedin at Urban Calm. I plan to visit the orphanage personally to deliver the money as soon as I am able. All donations still very welcomed.
The Empowerment Plan
The Empowerment Plan is a Detroit based nonprofit organization focused on permanently elevating families from the generational cycle of homelessness. We hire single parents from local shelters and provide them with training and full-time employment as seamstresses so that they can earn a stable income, find secure housing, and regain their independence. The individuals we hire manufacture a coat designed to meet the needs of those in the homeless community. The durable EMPWR Coat can transform into a sleeping bag at night or an over- the-shoulder bag when not in use. Since 2012, they have provided employment to 34 homeless individuals—all of whom have now secured permanent housing for themselves and their families —and distributed over 15,000 coats to those in need across the U.S. and Canada.
How can we bring this to the REST of the world ?
The EMPWR coat is a water-resistant jacket, which can transform into a sleeping bag, or be worn as an over-the-shoulder bag when not in use. The coat is constructed of durable, water resistant Cordura fabric from Carhartt, upcycled automotive insulation from General Motors, and other materials provided by generous donors.
It costs $100 to sponsor a coat, which covers the cost of labor, materials, and overhead expenses. Sponsor a coat to be given to someone in need by making a donation here. To receive a coat for someone in need in your community, contact us by filling out our "Request a coat" form.
